The Business of Biotechnology

[摘要] The convention is billed as “the world’s largest gathering of the global biotech community” (more than 15,000 attendees) and the theme was “Heal, Fuel, Feed the World.” The four-day event (at McCormick Place, Chicago, IL) featured a Business Forum including a one-on-one partnering system, a very large BIO exhibition center with focus zones on particular products/services/geographic areas and many forums and breakout sessions. Except for a brief course on biotechnology for the non-scientists, most of the sessions were business-oriented. A large part of the meeting strategy was focused on getting academe and small entrepreneurial startups together with investors, including large pharmaceutical organizations. As my focus was on one full day of the translational medicine forum, we shall concentrate on that aspect.
