Recent Developments in the Metabolic Management of BPH
[摘要] Recent studies show that more than 90% of men older than 80 years develop histological benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), and it is estimated that by age 60 more than half of all men will have documented evidence of the disease. Although it appears that histological BPH can be regarded as an inevitable part of aging, factors such as degree of prostate enlargement are highly variable. Lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS) have historically been seen as resulting from bladder outlet obstruction (BOO), and associated with prostatic enlargement, leading to speculation of a causal relationship. There remains insufficient evidence, however, to establish causality. The challenge for practicing physicians is how to employ proven classes of medications.
