Free Radical Scavenging Potential of leaf extracts of Capparisgrandiflora wall.ex Hook

[摘要] In-vitro antioxidant activity of various extracts of the leaves of Capparis grandiflora Wall.ExHook was determined by DPPH free radical scavenging assay. The Reducing power of extractswas also determined. Ascorbic acid was used as standard and positive control for both theanalysis. The chloroform and ethanolic extracts of Capparis grandiflora showed verysignificant DPPH (1,1-diphenyl-2-picryl-hydrazyl) radical scavenging activity compared to thatof standard antioxidant. The DPPH radical scavenging activity of the extract was increased withthe increasing concentration. In DPPH free radical scavenging assay, IC50 value of chloroformand ethanol leaf extracts was found to be 39.2 μg/mL and 30.7 μg/mL respectively. The resultsconcluded that the extracts have a potential source of antioxidants of natural origin.
