Pharmacognostic, phytochemical and physiochemical studies ofMimusops Elengi Linn stem bark (Sapotaceae)

[摘要] In recent years there has been rapid increase in the standardization of selected medicinal plant of potential therapeutic significance. Despite the modern techniques, identification of plant drug by pharmacognostic study is more reliable. Mimusops elengi belongs to family Sapotaceae, commonly known as Spanish cherry is one such tree native to the Western Ghat region of the peninsular India. By looking the high traditional use of the plant Mimusops elengi Linn, the present investigation was undertaken for research with the purpose of drawing the pharmacopoeial standards for this species. The present study deals with pharmacognostical parameters for the bark of Mimusops elengi which mainly consists of macromorphology and microscopical characters, physio-chemical constants and phytochemical screening. This information will be of used for further pharmacological and therapeutical evaluation of the species and will assist in standardization for quality, purity and sample identification.
