A Study of Action of Saliva and Extract of Tonsils Upon Diphtheria Bacillus and Diphtheria Toxin

[摘要] This preliminary report records the results of experimental tests of the action of saliva and extracts of tonsils and other organs upon diphtheria bacilli and diphtheria toxin. Evidence is presented which seems to indicate that some specimens of saliva may exert an anti-bacterial action against diphtheria bacilli and that saline extracts of tonsils and lymph nodes may inhibit the necrotizing action of diphtheria toxin. Whether or not these reactions are specific, has not been determined and the experiments do not permit the drawing of definite conclusions at this time.
