Studies on Immunity in Anthrax

[摘要] Antigen elaborated by a non-proteolytic, non-encapsulated mutant of the Vollum strain effectively immunized rabbits against challenge with 35 strains of B. anthracis of varied origin. In guinea pigs, although protection against heterologous challenge was obtained in most cases, fatal infection occurred following challenge of immunized animals with several of the strains. Antigens elaborated by two of the latter strains, however, were no more effective in immunization against homologous challenge than was antigen elaborated by the Vollum mutant. The meaning of the results is discussed.
