The Interaction of Bwamba Virus with Homologous Immune Serum

[摘要] A study has been made of the conditions governing the reactions of Bwamba fever virus with homologous immune serum. The neutralization reaction was found irreversible. Treatment of immune serum with virus was not found to reduce the neutralizing titer, but treatment with particulate C-F antigen did lower the specific complement fixing power of the serum. When dilute serum was used the process of neutralization was found to continue over a period of several hours. The rate of this process varied with the temperature, but was largely independent of heat labile complement and divalent cations. A fraction of virus that was more slowly neutralized than the remainder could be removed from suspension by centrifugation at moderate speed.
