The Inactivation of Influenza Virus by Mercurials and the Reactivation by Sodium Thioglycolate and Bal

[摘要] Six mercurials were tested for their in vitro activity against influenza virus. HgCl2, merbromin, merodicein, metaphen and phenyl mercuric nitrate effectively inactivated influenza virus. Merthiolate possessed little in vitro activity against influenza B virus. Merodicein instilled intranasally possessed some prophylactic activity against influenza virus.The inactivation of influenza virus by HgCl2 could be reversed in vitro with either sodium thioglycolate or BAL. The intramuscular injection of BAL also effected the in vivo reactivation of the virus.
