Varying Specificity of Systemic Lupus Erythematosus Sera for Histone Fractions and a Periodatesensitive Antigen Associated with Histone

[摘要] Three human systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) sera reacted with free histones and showed varying selectivity for the histone fractions. Two sera were primarily reactive with F1 histone and one with F2a. Another serum appeared to react specifically with F2a2 histone, but the antigen which reacted with this serum was inactivated by periodate and was removed from the histone by electrophoresis. A fifth serum, which did not react with free DNA or free histone, reacted with histone-DNA complexes, but only when they were formed with the F2a2 histone; this component of histone antigen remained active after exposure to periodate and was recovered with homogeneous F2a2 protein on preparative electrophoresis. The sera also varied in their relative reactivities with free histone and nucleoprotein.
