Evaluation of Human Rabies Immune Globulin and Homologous and Heterologous Antibody
[摘要] A safe, effective rabies immune globulin of human origin (HRIG) is needed for rabies post-exposure treatment. Several lots of HRIG were prepared and evaluated. The results indicate that although the three lots of HRIG used in this study did not pass the National Institutes of Health's minimum potency requirements, the manufacture of an acceptable HRIG is feasible. In comparative protection tests in three species, rabies antibody of human origin was shown to be as effective as equine antibody. A comparison of homologous and heterologous rabies antisera revealed that homologous serum used for post-challenge treatment appeared to be more effective than heterologous serum in dogs, but not in mice. Although large doses of equine antibody given to dogs caused marked interference with active immunization, smaller doses of homologous antibody caused no interference whatever.
