Immunologic Studies in Blastomycosis
[摘要] The data to be reported in this paper are results of studies on the immunologic reactions elicited by Blastomyces dermatitis : ( a ) in response to vaccine treatment in a case of systemic blastomycosis, and ( b ) in laboratory animals upon injection of the culture isolated from the human case.In his early observations regarding human infection with blastomyces, Hektoen (1) found that the undiluted serum of a dog which had received successive inoculations of organisms, isolated from a case of cutaneous oidiomycosis, caused gradual clumping of the yeast in bouillon cultures. Christensen and Hektoen (2) were the first to suggest vaccine treatment for blastomycosis. They administered vaccine to several patients, but not for long enough periods to enable them to form conclusions regarding its value.A few years later, Davis (3) reported an extensive study of the immunologic reactions of oidiomycosis in the guinea pig.
