The Photodynamic Effect of Methylene Blue on Tetanus Toxin

[摘要] 1. 1. The toxic properties of tetanus toxin in a filtered broth culture of C. tetani are rapidly diminished by the photodynamic action of methylene blue in certain concentrations.2. 2. The inactivation of tetanus toxin in the presence of dilute solutions of methylene blue is more marked after one hour exposure to light than when the mixture is exposed for shorter intervals of time.3. 3. Antigenic property could not be demonstrated in tetanus toxin after partial destruction of its toxicity by exposure to light in the presence of dilute solutions of methylene blue.4. 4. An optimum concentration of methylene blue for the inactivation of tetanus toxin by light is demonstrated.5. 5. In the concentrations used, methylene blue does not inhibit the effect of tetanus toxin in vivo .
