The Effect of Adjuvants on Antituberculosis Vaccination with Live Mycobacteria

[摘要] Mice were vaccinated with various mycobacterial vaccines administered in adjuvant mixtures or in aqueous suspensions. Live vaccines in adjuvants gave considerably less protection against tuberculosis than was afforded by the same vaccines in aqueous suspensions. Similar unfavorable effects were obtained with relatively large vaccine doses, or with repeated vaccinations. A comparable diminishing effect on the protective action of vaccines was not observed when killed preparations were given in adjuvant mixtures. The possible reasons for this seemingly paradoxical observation are discussed.
