Stickiness of Erythrocytes Caused by Certain Agglutinins
[摘要] An investigation of the phenomenon of adherence of agglutinated erythrocytes to the walls of the test tubes in which the reactions were carried out supports Landsteiner's suggestion (8) that it is due to the adsorption of a layer (or layers) of molecules of agglutinin on the walls of the test tube, followed by specific adherence of the agglutinated cells to the adsorbed molecules of agglutinin. The agglutinin can be adsorbed to a wide variety of surfaces. In the case of lima bean anti-A agglutinin (lectin), but not in the case of chicken antihuman agglutinin, the sticking can be completely prevented by the addition of lima bean trypsin inhibitor, leaving the cells powerfully agglutinated but free from the glass.
