The Properdin System and Immunity

[摘要] Human properdin, purified 2500-fold over serum by adsorption to and elution from Zymosan, was found to be heterogeneous by biochemical, immunological, electrophoretic, and ultracentrifugal criteria. Electrophoretically, properdin activity was associated with γ1-globulins; ultracentrifugally, primarily with a component having a sedimentation constant of 19 S at infinite dilution. Purified properdin was antigenically heterogeneous and was contaminated with a variety of normal human serum constituents. In all cases, including phosphatase, lysozyme and Zymosan agglutinin, these could be distinguished from properdin itself.
