Phagocytosis of Mouse Tumor Cells in Vitro by Various Homologous and Heterologous Cells

[摘要] A number of homologous and heterologous cells were tested for their ability to phagocytize mouse tumor cells in vitro . Peritoneal and splenic macrophages from mice, rats and guinea pigs, as well as cells from a mouse reticulum cell sarcoma, were capable of phagocytosis, whereas a number of nonhistiocytic cells were not. Phagocytosis occurred only in the presence of isoimmune serum directed against the tumor cells. The significance of these findings is discussed in relation to the events inducing phagocytosis.
