Surface Phagocytosis in Vivo

[摘要] By means of the rabbit ear-chamber technique it has been possible to visualize in individual capillaries the phagocytosis of encapsulated Friedlander's bacilli within a few minutes after they have been injected into the blood stream. This immediate intravascular ingestion of bacteria has been shown to be due to surface phagocytosis, a cellular defense reaction that operates in the absence of antibody.
