Experimental Hypersensitivity in the Rabbit
[摘要] A method for iodinating proteins with radioactive iodine and a method for mass assay of relative concentrations in animal tissues are given. A modified method is described for estimating radiation dosage of a whole animal from the amounts of radioactivity given and excreted.Iodinated bovine serum gamma globulin, when injected intravenously into rabbits in massive doses, largely disappeared from the blood and tissues within nine days. Iodinated human albumin persisted in some animals for two weeks. The iodine excreted in the urine is not bound to protein. In exsanguinated but unperfused rabbits the tissue concentrations (except for the thyroid) were about one fourth to one twentieth of the blood concentrations. The concentration in any one tissue at a given time was roughly proportional to the blood concentration. Because of this no correlation could be drawn between the tissue concentrations and the known sites of hypersensitive lesions. The lymph nodes appeared to concentrate the foreign protein, especially in the medulla, out of proportion to their blood content.
