Anti-Pneumococcal Polysacharide Type III Hemolytic Plaques in Mice: Cellular Response in Immunity and Immunologic Paralysis

[摘要] Sheep red blood cells sensitized with pneumococcal polysaccharide type III (SIII) react specifically with anti-SIII, and upon addition of complement are hemolyzed. This reaction provided the base for a hemolytic plaque procedure that was used to investigate the cellular response of mice to SIII given in amounts that induce either immunity or paralysis. Young offspring of immunologically paralyzed and normal mice showed differences in their response to SIII.
