Studies on Haemagglutination with the Gdvii Strain of Murine Encephalomyelitis
[摘要] A study of the mechanism of GDVII haemagglutination has shown certain distinctions from that of the PR8 influenza virus. Heating to 56 C for 30 minutes greatly reduced the GDVII titre but in no way influenced the adsorption and elution processes with human red cells. Periodate treatment of human group O erythrocytes effectively prevented elution of adsorbed PR8 virus but had little effect on a similar reaction with the GDVII strain. Extracts of red cells which were agglutinable by both viruses inhibited influenza haemagglutination to a greater extent than was shown for the GDVII strain.Together with other observations described in the text these findings would appear to indicate that the mechanisms of haemagglutination by the GDVII strain of murine encephalomyelitis virus and that of the PR8 influenza strain are not closely related. This work was conducted with financial support from the Medical Research Council of New Zealand.
