The Evolution of the Immune Response

[摘要] Erythrocyte agglutinins were isolated and purified from the horseshoe crab, Limulus polyphemus , and the starfish, Asterias forbesi . The purified agglutinins were studied with respect to primary and secondary molecular structure and the nature of component subunits. When the two agglutinins were compared to one another, to other invertebrate agglutinins and to known vertebrate immunoglobulins, each was found to be unique.
