Affinity of Murine and Human Interferon for Concanavalin A

[摘要] Mouse and human white blood cell interferon are specifically complexed to concanavalin A covalently linked to Sepharose 4B beads. This reaction does not take place when α-methyl-D-mannoside is added prior and simultaneously to interferon. After fixation, murine interferon can be displaced from concanavalin A by this sugar. Similarly, in a sensitive tissue culture system, contact with cell membranes detaches the active interferon molecule which, after diffusion, induces the antiviral state in cells located at distant sites from the beads. The Sepharose-concanavalin A interferon complex is more stable at 4°C than uncomplexed interferon.
