The Effect of Reducing Agents on the Fourth Component of Complement

[摘要] Reducing agents such as HCN, alkali cyanides, sodium bisulfite and thioglycollic acid fail to inactivate the fourth component of serum-complement. This failure of the cyanide and the bisulfite is in agreement with previous observations made on the reactions of reducing agents and aldehydes; these observations having been variously explained by the protective influence of redox structure, rate of reaction, and dissociation effects.NaCN and KCN in sufficient concentration inactivate the third component.
