The Effects of Acids and Alkalis on the Fourth Component of Complement, and the Rôle of Calcium

[摘要] End-piece and the fourth component are relatively unstable in acid solutions and stable in alkaline solutions.Organic acids which remove calcium do not inactivate the fourth component exclusively. Removal of calcium in neutral or slightly alkaline solutions does not inactivate the fourth component of complement.Mid-piece and the third component are relatively unstable in alkaline solutions and stable in acid solutions.There appears to be no immediate and direct relationship between calcium and the fourth component of complement.
