Autoclaving of pneumococcus vaccines at 10 lbs pressure so alters the capsular antigen that it does not stimulate the development of type-specific agglutinins in rabbits as well as when heated at 60°.2. 2. The degree of alteration varies with the type of pneumococcus. The difference is slight in types I and II vaccines, and most marked with type III vaccines.
