Agglutinin Production in Suprarenalectomized Rats
[摘要] Recent work of Jaffe and Marine (1) indicated that suprarenalectomized rats immunized with typhoid vaccine, within three weeks after operation, showed agglutinins against B. typhosus of a titer two to three times greater than that of normal rats similarly treated. On the other hand, Steinbach (2) found a lowering of resistance to tuberculosis in suprarenalectomized rats. This would seem to indicate that in spite of the fact Jaffe and Marine obtained an increase in antibody formation in suprarenalectomized rats, nevertheless the resistance of these animals to infection had been impaired by this operation. Therefore, because of the possible relationship which may exist between the suprarenal and antibody formation and of the discrepancy which seems to exist between antibody formation and resistance to disease, we have undertaken a series of experiments to repeat the work of Jaffe and Marine. The present investigation was carried out in a manner similar to that described by these investigators.
