The Influence of Hypersensitiveness to Horse Serum on the Duration of Local Passive Antitoxic Immunity in Man

[摘要] Previous experimental work on this subject has been here reviewed.The duration of a local passive immunity produced by injecting scarlatinal antitoxin into the skin was compared in human subjects who were separable into 3 groups according to their endermal reactivity to horse serum. Those who responded negatively or with a reaction of the delayed type, usually retained an effective portion of the test dose of antitoxin for more than twenty-four hours; the immediate reactors disposed of antitoxin so much more rapidly that in less than four hours an equally effective portion was no longer demonstrable.That this accelerated disposal of antitoxin is specifically dependent upon the allergic state seems highly probable; certain evidences that were not directly conformable to this hypothesis have been discussed.
