The Effect of a 42 Day Course of Treatment on the Sensitivity of the Tubercle Bacillus to Streptomycin
[摘要] Using a modified Dubos-Davis medium, in vitro streptomycin sensitivities of tubercle bacilli from 36 patients with pulmonary tuberculosis receiving 1.0 gm of streptomycin daily for 42 days were determined.Strains of organisms isolated in all 36 cases prior to treatment were sensitive to 5.0 micrograms or less of streptomycin per ml.Twenty-seven per cent of the original group treated were found to have tubercle bacilli resistant to 10.0 micrograms or more of streptomycin in vitro after treatment was completed.Several patients had tubercle bacilli which exhibited a delayed appearance of resistance to streptomycin. This occurred after treatment with streptomycin had been completed.
