The Nature of C-Reactive Protein in Acute Phase Serum: Evidence for an Equilibrium form Containing a Mucopolysaccharide of Serum
[摘要] C-reactive protein (CRP) in acute phase serum is in equilibrium with mucopolysaccharide, also present in normal serum, to form a higher molecular weight mucopolysaccharide-CRP complex. The interaction, in part, involves participation of sialic acid. CRP purified by chromatography on diethylaminoethyl (DEAE)-cellulose, or partially purified by the procedure of Wood et al. (3), contains mucopolysaccharide. Addition of a final gel filtration step on Sephadex G200 to purified CRP isolated by chromatography on DEAE-cellulose yields readily crystallizable CRP, and the interacting mucopolysaccharide.
