NITROGEN BALANCES IN A PATIENT WITH FIBROCYSTIC DISEASE OF THE PANCREAS AND A PATIENT WITH THE CELIAC SYNDROME AND THE EFFECT OF AUREOMYCIN
[摘要] 1. Nitrogen and electrolyte balance studies were carried out in 1 infant with fibrocystic disease of the pancreas and 1 infant with the celiac syndrome.2. The addition of Aureomycin® to the control regimen was not associated with any apparent beneficial effect on clinical status, weight gain or nitrogen and electrolyte balance in either subject.3. Gelatin supplementation of a high protein diet did not enhance nitrogen retention in the celiac subject.4. The subject with the celiac syndrome exhibited a fairly normal absorption of nitrogen which was offset by a large loss of nitrogen in the urine.5. The infant with fibrocystic disease of the pancreas compensated to some extent for an impaired nitrogen absorption by an efficient utilization of the absorbed nitrogen.
