GASTROENTERITIS IN INFANTS ASSOCIATED WITH SPECIFIC SEROTYPES OF ESCHERICHIA COLI

[摘要] The history of outbreaks of infantile gastroenteritis associated with a specific bacteriologic serotype, Escherichia coli 0111:B4, has been presented.The data presented in this paper add weight to the thesis that E. coli 0111:B4 is a pathogenic agent, especially in newborn infants. The reports of other investigators on other phases has also been corroborated, namely, the high contagiousness of the organism and the preponderance of the specific serotype in the aerobic fecal flora in the initial stages of infection.
