Acute Nephritis Unrelated to Group A Hemolytic Streptococcus Infection

[摘要] A group of 10 patients with acute glomerulonephritis are reported in whom there was no clinical or immunologic evidence of preceding streptococcal infection. These patients exhibited a shorter latent period between infection which was for the most part pharyngitis and onset of nephritis. Clinically, their disease was characterized by greater gross hematuria, but with less edema, hypertension and renal impairment than a similar group of patients with post-streptococcal nephritis. The clinical diagnosis was confirmed in each case by means of renal biopsy. This report reaffirms that acute hemorrhagic nephritis can be associated with pharyngitis caused by other than group A hemolytic streptococcus.
