Transitory Congenital Neutropenia: A New Syndrome

[摘要] Two cases of congenital, transient neutropenia in newborn infants of neutropenic mothers are described. It is believed these may be examples of a hitherto unrecognized syndrome, probably due to the transplacental passage of a neutropenic factor. The neutropenia in each case persisted for about 4 weeks when normal values for the leukocytes in the blood became established. Detailed consideration is given to the events during the pregnancies of the mothers and in both the mothers and the infants subsequent to birth. A pathogenetic classification of neutropenia and a discussion of the relevant literature are provided.
