ISOLATION OF TYPE I POLIOMYELITIS VIRUS FROM HUMAN CEREBROSPINAL FLUID

[摘要] A Type I poliomyelitis virus was isolated in monkey kidney tissue culture from the cerebrospinal fluid obtained 7 days after onset of symptoms in a 9-year-old boy with paralytic disease. The patient's throat and rectal swabs and stool specimen yielded also a Type I poliomyelitis virus. No virus was isolated from the blood. Neutralizing and complement-fixing antibody tests performed on paired samples of sera offered a pattern of diagnostic significance in poliomyelitic infection. It is believed that the isolation of poliomyelitis virus from human spinal fluid is a rare occurrence.
