[摘要] Can the NIH use its funds to speed publication of articles that have been carefully reviewed and accepted by competent editorial boards? Some editors take the position that since the process of research and writing a manuscript may take a year or two, why fuss about speeding up the mechanical process of publication by from four to six months. But slow publication is an anachronism in the modern era of electronics and computers which have not only revolutionized the speed of making scientific measurements but also the process of printing and reproduction.The author suggests that steps be taken to obtain rapid publication for a wide audience of the proceedings of small conferences that must be limited to a select few to make them profitable (now done effectively by some divisions of some institutes of the NIH).
