Prevention of behavior problems: A clinician's view

[摘要] Over the years in practice, those of us who started in the 30s were happily able to pass on to our patients the tremendous advances in preventive pediatrics continuously being made in the field of immunology and in the management of a wide variety of physica1 disorders. Unhappily, no comparable advances, preventive-wise, were being made in psychosocial pediatrics. When it came to helping parents with behavior problems—which accounted for the bulk of our time—preventively, we had very little to offer. Treatment centers and the numbers of those treating behavior and adolescent problems grew astronomically, but without any perceptible decline in the incidence of those problems.
