PEDIATRIC PSYCHOPHARMACOLOGY
[摘要] The Journal of the American Academy of Child Psychiatry, the official publication of the American Academy of Child Psychiatry, has a new image (8½x11 inches), now comes out six rather than four times per year, and is now published by the Williams & Wilkins Co. In addition, the journal is putting together issues or special sections on specific topics. Pediatric psychopharmacology is the subject of the January 1982 issue, with five papers. Pediatricians as well as child psychiatrists should read these articles. Pediatricians prescribe a lot of drugs for behavior problems. But as this section points out, no cures can be expected yet. Perhaps the most important point is that specific medications have been found to influence specific syndromes and/or metabolic pathways. As a result they may have their greatest impact as a stimulus for the study of the biologic basis of some behaviors, ". . .with the ultimate aim of developing a rational rather than empirical psychopharmacology." Pediatricians are often therapeutic enthusiasts and this series of articles presents a solid, but realistically sober view of the value of drugs in behavior problems today. The journal is a good place for pediatricians to begin their education in children's behavioral problems.
