Expenditures for child health care

[摘要] Costs for medical care, new financing schemes, and methods to curtail rising costs have become a paramount concern in many minds in recent years. Most of us, as physicians, find this emphasis somewhat disturbing, for we have operated on the assumption that anything we could do that might result in more good than harm for the individual patient should be done, no matter how marginal the gain in health. Now we must operate on a more fixed total health-care budget and use this for the greatest good. There are and will be unsettled ethical or philosophical issues as to how far we should push utilitarianism—the greatest good for the greatest number—for there are other human values of equal or higher importance.
