Prevention of rubella

[摘要] Immunization against rubella has been carried out in the United States since 1970. Efforts using three types of vaccine have been directed primarily at preschool children. Despite widespread application of the immunization program, there is still controversy with respect to the efficacy of the vaccine in producing herd immunity and in protecting pregnant women against the risk of bearing congenitally defective children. While it has been the general impression that this program has been highly successful in decreasing appreciably the incidence of this disease in the general population, a number of observations have raised serious questions as to the degree to which this has been accomplished.
