APPLICATION OF TISSUE CULTURE METHODS TO THE STUDY OF VIRAL INFECTIONS

[摘要] In conclusion, it is to be emphasized that the observations here reviewed represent the experience in one laboratory with tissue culture methods as applied to the study of viruses that infect man. In other laboratories culture methods are being applied successfully to the same as well as to quite dissimilar objectives, such as the search for antiviral substances or the study of the role of essential tissue metabolites in the growth of viruses. With the continuing improvements in tissue culture methodology, it is becoming increasingly evident that the virologist has available a simple in vitro technic that is an invaluable supplement to the more commonly employed procedures of animal and egg inoculation.
