Child abuse and neglect: The role of the pediatrician and the Academy
[摘要] "Child abuse in America is at the point of public outrage at the visible and dramatic end of the spectrum—the beatings, burnings and drownings. A punitive approach is the general rule, and the abusing, yet often loving, parents are fearful and secretive. This pair of attitudes compounds the problems in diagnosis and treatment at both ends of the spectrum. For every severe, recognized case, there are many less severe which pass through treatment agencies unrecognized, and others not even brought to treatment. Yet, where compassionate treatment programs are known in the community, abusing parents are even presenting themselves for help, and finding that an accepting, therapeutic, nonpunitive approach awaits them."
