Hemodialysis and renal transplantation in children: The role of the pediatric nephrology team
[摘要] Dialysis and transplantation are now acceptable modes of therapy for infants and children with end-stage renal disease. This necessitates a consideration of the appropriate role of the pediatric nephrology team in the care of these children. The passage of Federal legislation amending the Social Security Act to cover the extensive costs of dialysis and transplantation and the likelihood of the establishment of regional centers for adults and children further emphasizes the need to establish guidelines for personnel and facilities caring for infants, children and adolescents.Initially, we must assess the goals of dialysis and transplantation in children. The most desirable and obvious goal is to return renal function to normal through transplantation whenever possible.
