MECONIUM PERITONITIS: PROGNOSTIC SIGNIFICANCE
[摘要] The experience of the authors with meconium peritonitis and a review of the [See Table IV in Source Pdf] literature form the basis of this report. Physicians are unjustifiably pessimistic regarding the management of newborn infants with meconium peritonitis. The salvage of such patients demands early surgical treatment, usually including the resection of all pathologic or extensively involved and entrapped intestine, and the immediate restoration of intestinal continuity. There is a marked contrast in prognosis of meconium peritonitis between those infants who have meconium ileus and those who have other types of obstructive lesions. There has been only 1 long-term survivor among the 10 patients in our series who were suffering from cystic fibrosis of the pancreas, whereas there were no deaths among the last 9 patients with meconium peritonitis due to other causes.
