FEMINIZING ADRENAL ADENOMA IN A 7-YEAR-OLD BOY

[摘要] Clinical findings in a case of feminizing adrenal tumor in a 7-year-old boy included gynecomastia, development of sexual hair and cryptorchidism on the left. The total excretion of estrogens in urine was 4 µg/24 hr, and of 17-ketosteroids, 9.1 mg/24 hr. The left testis was found to be normal on palpation after having been forced into the inguinal canal. By means of retroperitoneal pneumography a mass in the left adrenal was visualized. Removal of the tumor with the host adrenal was followed by a prompt return of steroid excretion to normal and gradual recession of the sexual hair and abnormally developed glandular tissue of the breast. The tumor appeared histologically to be a benign adrenal cortical adenoma. A 2-year period of observation has revealed no recurrences. Problems relating to the diagnosis of feminizing adrenal tumor in children are discussed.
