Tech and Healthcare: A Call for Taking Control of Our Own Data

[摘要] We should not be surprised that Silicon Valley technology giants, including Apple, Google, and IBM, have taken the leap into healthcare and are attempting to solve the complex problem of integrating large amounts of data to generate actionable information. The explosion of consumer health wearables including devices that monitor exercise and sleep patterns, flexible patches that sense body temperature, hydration, heart rate, and brain activity, contact lenses that monitor glucose levels, and the “artificial pancreas,” among others, have flung open the doors to a fast-growing market where consumers are generating large amounts of data and tracking these data in real time through their smartphones. Artificial intelligence, or machine learning, is another familiar tool to the tech world that is making its way into the healthcare sector.
