Closing the gap: the relationship between academic access policy and implementation at University in South Africa
[摘要] On the whole, Mr Malgasperceived the model as having the potential to makea contribution in the enhancement of student access to South Africanuniversities. Nevertheless, he observed that the issue of resourcecommitment had not been emphasised in the framework. According to MrMalgas, the government should back access policies with provision ofresources (financial, physical and otherwise) to facilitate ease ofimplementation. Drawing from his previous experience at universities inSouth Africa, the Registrar: Natal University, mentioned that even with theinstitutional access policy aspirations in place, only a limited number oflearners were normally admitted to avoid over-stretching the existingresources.Mr Malgasalso suggested that the question of student support be included inthe framework, because in his opinion, it would be unacceptable to admitlea~nersand not help them through their programmes.
