Navigating Misconduct in Research Oversight
[摘要] Novel research ideas, a dogged work ethic, and clear communication of proposed studies are all essential components of grantsmanship and the successful acquisition of federal or private funding. However, the landscape for grant dollars remains highly competitive. In 2015, across 27 institutes and centers, only 18.3% of submitted grants were successfully awarded to investigators by NIH (1). The pursuit of research funding is only half the battle; postaward, the focus shifts to proposal execution. Notably, this process extends beyond the scientific endeavors described in the grant submission, and includes appropriate training, quality, and regulatory requirements. With the mounting pressure to be productive and innovative, investigators may focus their efforts on the scientific components of a grant, thereby overlooking the compliance-focused components associated with research.
