A Method for the Rapid Detection of Acute Iron Toxicity

[摘要] In acute iron poisoning, it is necessary for rational management to know whether the plasma iron exceeds the transferrin-binding capacity. A method for the rapid determination of iron in plasma is described whereby this essential information may be obtained in a few minutes. This test will help to differentiate simple iron ingestion from acute iron toxicity so the clinician may have a firmer basis upon which to decide whether chelate therapy is indicated.
