LIFE OF STEEL SHEET PILE STRUCTURES IN ATLANTIC COASTAL STATES

[摘要] As a basis for more accurate estimates of the useful life of steel sheet piling, in 1936 the Beach Erosion Board, in cooperation with a number of District offices of the Corps of Engineers, began a survey of the rate of deterioration of steel sheet piling. The plan of operations was developed by and the first inspection was made under the supervision of Mr. Ralph F. Rhodes, Engineer of the Savannah District. Subsequent inspections were under the supervision of Mr. Jay V. Hall, Jr. and most of the compilation and analysis of data were done by Mr. C. W. Ross, both of the Beach Erosion Board staff. The Corps of Engineers is indebted to the many owners of structures who contributed to the study by permitting drilling and measurement of piling.
