PROTOTYPE MEASUREMENTS OF THE DYNAMIC RESPONSE OF CAISSON BREAKWATERS

[摘要] Prototype tests, aiming to describe the dynamics of caisson breakwater oscillations, were carried out at Genoa Voltri and at Brindisi Punta Riso. The rigid body natural frequencies and modes of oscillation of the caissons were evaluated as well as the rate of damping. The effect of the longitudinal array structure, never tested in physical models, was found extremely relevant; the Mass Spring Dash-pot model for an isolated caisson of Oumeraci & Kortenhaus (1994) was then conveniently updated in order to represent an array structure, showing finally good agreement with the recorded signals.
